The "Dairy Queen", a judge coined her
when he gave her the final leg to her championship as a four year-old.
(I am sure he smiles broadly as he reflects on that now.) She has
certainly exceeded any hopes or expectations we ever had for her in her
youth. Nostalgia was a very
slow doe to come into her true "look". She
was quite homely as a kid and didn't come together until she was three. Now
she moves about the ring with a true elegance and style. Although,
as a six year-old, her rear pasterns started to show evidence of her
long term, heavy milk production, every other part of her we hope to see
appear in each of her progeny. Despite
these long, level, high producing lactations she still sports a high,
wide rear udder and lovely extension to the fore. As a package it is
incredibly well attached, obviously capacious with exceptional medial
support. As evidenced in Hill's Acres GXY Nova (her 2000) daughter, she passes these
same dairy qualities on to her daughters.
I think we all agree however, that we would like to see a
smaller, more deliniated teat--but golly, we just can't have it all.
With all of her accomplishments, Nostalgia is a doe you can
write a book about. Her
show history includes 1xBDIS, 1xBOB, 2xGCH, 2xRGCH, 7x1st and 3x2nd. She
was the 3rd place six year-old with 3rd place udder at the 2002 ADGA
National Show behind the National Champion and the Reserve National
Champion. She also has many
production awards to her credit. She
was Snohomish County's 2001 D.H.I.A. High Individual Goat for both milk
and butterfat. Quite a feat
for a Nubian in our area when going up against all those Swiss breeds! The Dairy Queen is also semi-retired now and only comes out
for the National Shows to compete for the production awards. At the 2002
ADGA National Show she won both the ADGA 305 Day High Butterfat Award
and the 305 Day High Production Award. The most exciting for us was when
she was named the winner of the 2002 ADGA Lifetime Award for butterfat
production. This was
something we never dared even hope to obtain in any doe we bred. Then,
as if that was not enough, what we worked so hard for in 2001 actually
came to be when Nostalgia was recognized as a Top Ten Breed Leader for
butterfat. This all happened the same year she went Best
Doe-In-Show and received her first Final Linear Score of 90 (VEEE). She
is truly a doe who has excelled on every front.
Needless to say, Nostalgia is a catalyst in our herd.
She shows, she milks and she loves it all. But what she loves the most are the pretzels twice a day as
we thank her for all she does for our herd.
