What a fantastic surprise this buck has been. When we purchased
Galaxy it was by pedigree only and sight unseen. He was a mature
buck with just a few daughters that were still quite young. We used
him with caution at first and then Hill's Acres GXY Lucky Lacerta 11*M
(LA: 1-06 88 VEVV) was born. One of our dearest friends, Judi Hoy,
came to visit for Teresa's birthday and immediately claimed
"Lace" as her own and her first Nubian! We laughed and
wouldn't you know it, one of the first times Judi showed her, Lace
received her milking leg as a yearling! Since she had earned her dry
leg as a junior, she now only needed one leg finish and was still just a
year old! We had such high hopes for her. Her first kidding
she gifted us with Hill's Acres It's My Fable, the 2002 Reserve National
Junior Champion, and then did not settle as a two year-old. We lost
her, at home, while we were at the National Show the same day Fable was
named Rsv. National Junior Champion. What a way to spoil the thrill
of a lifetime. In any case, Galaxy has other beautiful daughters
such as Hill's Acres GXY Nova, a first freshening two year-old who placed
9th of 71 at the 2002 Nationals and Hill's Acres GXY Cassiopeia the 1st
pl. Junior Yearling. He was also the sire of the 1st place Nubian
Junior Get-Of-Sire in Pueblo.
Now that we have a few daughters to look at, we
can say with confidence what we feel he has to offer. Large goats
with level toplines! Along with that he will add length of rib,
overall length of body and sometimes dramatic improvements in length from
hips to pins. The rumps of his daughters are generally quite level
from thurl to thurl. However, he can shorten extension to the fore
in some cases, but not always.
Galaxy was never shown, as he was scared to death
of anything on two legs. hence the reason the picture above is of
him just standing in the field. You can see by this picture how long
and level he himself was. He has also passed, and is only available
via AI. We are still using him quite heavily in the herd by way of
the little popsicles. We have great ideas for a Senior-Get from this
buck, be watching for it.
